You landed in the right spot if you are looking for gluten-free and yeast-free bread that's healthy with no additives and preservatives!

Since the boom in gluten allergies, we have an array of gluten-free loaves of bread that adorn the supermarket's shelves. However, most of them are highly questionable regarding ingredients and the added harmful additives and preservatives.

I wrote an article about how ‘healthy is gluten-free bread anyway’, and in my research. I came across some alarming facts about the effect of these additives on our digestive tract and health. If you have celiac disease, which is an autoimmune disease, you need to be extremely careful not to add inflammatory foods to your body.

The standard G.F. bread contains many questionable ingredients that may worsen your symptoms. The foods that you need to eat are anti-inflammatory. These store-bought bread are synthetic junk foods that need to be thrown in the trash, not put into your body, which is already compromised.

Harmful E numbers and additives in your daily bread

The additives used in processed gluten free bread are produced synthetically in a laboratory as these are often less expensive than natural products. All additives have an E number attached to them. Many bread brands contain a slew of E numbers and additives, which are questionable.

Since we have moved away from natural foods and started spraying our crops with round up and carcinogenic pesticides, creating G.M. foods, and hybridizing the shit out of wheat and plants. Creating isles and isles of free from and junk foods, from synthetic chemical ingredients created and manipulated in laboratories and Houston, we now have a problem!

Because the food industry is profit-led, nutrition is not essential to the food producers. Costs are cut, cheap synthetic ingredients used, and essential nutrients stripped from foods to make managing, packaging and transportation more accessible, shelf life longer and profits higher.

Refined processed, poor-quality food is causing more illness and malnutrition in humans than any other factor. It's responsible for the steep rise in many conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, bone, skin and blood disorders, obesity, reduced immunity to bacteria, virus and fungal infections, and cancer.

The food industry exploded just 50 years ago, which means the long term effects of human consumption of these additives have not yet been assessed. However, if you consider that celiac disease is rising rapidly ( 400 fold since the 80s),

Many are just coming to light now as more reports of adverse conditions are linked to food additives. The artificial sweetener Aspartame is one example.

Because it takes so long for conditions to arise from ingesting additives as they slowly build up in the system, many other factors can be blamed. The food industry can continue adding substances that can cause ill health.

Healthiest breads on the market

It's not all doom and gloom, though. I have researched the best healthy bread, which can be easily purchased online. I've also included some great yeast-free and gluten-free recipes.

Buying G.F. products can be pricy, so if you're comfortable in the kitchen, I recommend that you experiment a little and start making bread at home in batches. Then, you can slice the bread and freeze it so that you always have bread to hand. Here are my top picks.

SEEDFUL Seeded Loaf with Chia

This is probably one of my favourite brands. They do many other varieties of bread, so this one is worth checking out. This bakery uses all-natural ingredients with no added rubbish or chemicals. None of their bread contains yeast! YAY

Water, Gluten-Free OAT flakes, sunflower seeds, brown linseeds, golden linseeds, rapeseed oil, pumpkin seeds, millet seeds, psyllium fibre, chia seeds ( 3% ), milled brown linseeds, apple cider vinegar, Himalayan salt.

Seedful is a range of flour-free, individual loaves and rolls high in fibre and packed with seeds and whole grains. The bread is baked without any flour or raising agent, including yeast. It is a very dense, wholesome, satisfying, and deliciously chewy bread! It is a tasty, moist, digestible loaf without refined carbs and additives. The whole range is full of protein and Omega-3 acids with an excellent Omega-3/Omega-6 ratio. They have bread with olives, wild garlic, cranberries, chia seeds and quinoa, to name a few varieties.

This is a bakery located in Oxfordshire, and they also deliver. The bread is a little pricey, but I think the quality and taste of the bread supersede the price point. I'm happy to eat bread that tastes delicious, healthy and not like cardboard that falls apart if you breathe.

They do lots of different varieties, so they are definitely worth looking at their product range. They don't do yeast-free bread but make sourdough using natural wild yeast. One of the breads they do see below contains natural ingredients.

Look at the rosemary focaccia on the products page, or try the apricot and pumpkin seeds loaf, the chocolate and toasted hazelnut loaf or even some granola. They do such a wonderful variety. It's definitely worth a look.

Buckwheat & poppyseed bread - Ingredients are ; Buckwheat, sorghum, white teff, brown teff, quinoa, flaxseed, psyllium, fresh yeast, poppyseed, and salt.

This loaf is made from our buckwheat & teff flour blend and fresh baker's yeast with the addition of poppy seed too. The poppy seed adds a nutty flavour and adds to the loaf's nutritional content as poppy seeds are high in magnesium and calcium, and they also add extra fibre. This loaf has a lovely nutty flavour and an attractive malty colour studded with seeds.

This bread is made without yeast. Double yay! Buckwheat is an excellent ingredient for making baked goods, cookies, porridge, pancakes, etc. It's incredibly versatile with a beautiful nuttiness and depth of flavour.

They have a really wide range of breads that include bread with cumin, quinoa, plums, olives, wild garlic, and mixed fruits, to name a few.

Improv'eat Coconut Wrap Curry

 Organic keto coconut wraps. If you are looking for wraps, I have you covered. These ones are quite pricy, though. They are great for a keto diet as they have low carbs. Use them as you would regular wraps. The ingredients for these wraps are -"Coconut meat, Coconut water, Organic Curry powder, and Salt " All-natural and straightforward ingredients, which I love.

Raw wrap spinach flavour

These are the ingredients of these wraps: "Apple, kale, quinoa seeds, coconut nectar, psyllium husk."

I nearly had a stroke looking at the price. It may be within your budget, though. However, I have included recipes for homemade wraps, which don't require much time and are simple only 2 to 3  ingredients.

Homemade recipes for bread

Chia seeds buckwheat bread

I like this easy recipe, you could double or triple this recipe in one go, so you have a couple of weeks' worth of bread baked simultaneously. Cool slice and freeze the slices of bread, so you always have bread to hand. Ingredients include ; chia seeds, water, buckwheat groats,  flax seeds, sunflower seeds, olive oil, maple syrup, and baking powder.

Grain free flax almond bread

This can be used for a paleo diet also. You can find tapioca flour in health food shops or online. Instead of Greek yoghurt, use vegan coconut yoghurt if you are dairy intolerant. If you have an aversion to eggs, swap the eggs for flax eggs. Get the recipe here.

Ingredients: almond meal, ground flaxseeds, salt, baking powder, tapioca flour (or arrowroot powder), butter (or coconut oil), 4 eggs, whisked very well, apple cider vinegar, unsweetened plain Greek yoghurt (or coconut cream)

Yeast-Free Gluten-Free Vegan Bread

This one has a few ingredients; however, making this recipe is worth the effort and time. Buy sorghum flour, Psyllium husk, arrowroot starch, and coconut palm sugar ( or coconut sugar)  from health food shops or online.

At places like Holland & Barrat, amazon, or planet organic. It can be bought at health food shops too. The brown rice flour can be purchased in supermarkets.

The ingredients for this recipe are; hemp milk, lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, oat flour, brown rice flour, sorghum flour, arrowroot starch, baking powder, psyllium husk, organic coconut palm sugar, sea salt, and water.

Olive Chickpea Flour Bread

Fresh homemade vegan and gluten-free bread with extra flavour. I love using chickpea flour in bread. This one has a beautiful flavour and 4 ingredients. Yay! Ingredients for this bread are; chickpea flour, 1 lemon, juiced baking soda, and sunflower seeds.

Flaxseeds wraps

Try making these and freezing them in between sheets of baking parchment. Use in the same way as you would regular wraps. Great for keto and paleo diets. There are more options for different wraps at the bottom of this recipe.

Ingredients for this bread recipe are ; Garlic powder, Ginger, Ground flaxseeds, Onion flakes Salt, Turmeric, Flaxseed, Water.

Buckwheat wraps

I love using buckwheat in recipes and have made buckwheat wraps a few times. They are more pancake-like in texture than the usual wheat type you have been used to.

However, I think they are still delicious and worth experimenting with. Especially since buckwheat flour is relatively inexpensive. Ingredients for the wraps are ; 1 cup buckwheat flour, ¼ tsp baking soda, pinch salt, 1 ½ cup water.

Food for your soul

Most of us grew up eating bread as a staple. It's incredibly comforting and nurturing for our soul to eat. I was devastated when I realized I couldn't eat bread due to a yeast intolerance. I have spent much time trying new bread, researching the ingredients, and experimenting with different recipes because of my own intolerances.

I have written two fascinating articles on the downside of gluten and why gluten has become a hazardous food suddenly. As a chef, I remembered that 10 years ago, hardly anyone was allergic to gluten.

I only had come across 1 celiac in my first 20 years as a chef. Now the list of allergies and intolerances people have has multiplied. Look at the articles where I delve further into this subject to unearth why gluten allergies are rising.
